Confirming That You Are Pregnant
One in five positive pregnancy tests will end in natural miscarriage. A urine pregnancy test cannot confirm a viable pregnancy as hCG, the pregnancy hormone, may be present in the urine of a woman for up to 6-8 weeks after a miscarriage.
Determining How Far Along You Are
One sure way that we can help you to find out if you are pregnant, and then determine approximately how far along you are, is through a limited ultrasound. Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves and their echoes which in turn produce a picture which is projected onto a screen. Ultrasound has been used for many decades without any harmful side effects to women or their babies.
Our highly trained and experienced medical staff will be glad to provide you with a free, confidential ultrasound. You will then be provided with accurate information on your pregnancy status, as well as the information and possible referrals you need.
With ultrasound, the gestational sac can be seen as early as 4 ½ weeks. The embryo can be seen and measured by 5 ½ weeks. To confirm viability, we need to visualize your baby’s heartbeat within the uterus. We will take measurements to estimate the baby’s gestational age and determine an accurate due date.
Some fertilized eggs do not make it out of the fallopian tubes and can cause the tube to rupture as the pregnancy grows larger. This is called an ectopic pregnancy. An ultrasound can indicate if you may have an ectopic pregnancy and if you should seek immediate medical attention.
