What Is an Ultrasound?

Here is a woman wondering What Is an Ultrasound?

No one feels prepared to handle an unplanned pregnancy. You may not even know what to do after receiving the news. You are not alone in your journey. It’s essential to let yourself have time to process the news and confirm your pregnancy before making any decision. An ultrasound is one of the first best steps to get more clarity about your pregnancy.

Confirm Your Pregnancy

After receiving a positive pregnancy test, confirming your pregnancy with ultrasound is your next step. Here are the three reasons an ultrasound is necessary after taking a pregnancy test:

  1. To check for a viable pregnancy
  2. Know the location of your pregnancy
  3. Learn how far along you are

An ultrasound does more than confirm your pregnancy; it also alerts you to potential pregnancy risks and complications. Before moving forward with a pregnancy decision, you need to know this necessary information. An ultrasound can detect an ectopic pregnancy. This type of pregnancy is located outside the uterus and is a potential health threat.

Our team at Willow Women’s Center is here for you. We offer no-cost ultrasounds so you can confirm your pregnancy and receive the support you need.

How Does An Ultrasound Work?

An ultrasound uses an imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to capture images inside your body. A handheld device called a transducer is used to reveal the contents of your uterus. It then sends sound waves into your body and receives the echoes that bounce back, creating images on a screen.

You have the first ultrasound during the first trimester, generally around six weeks. After confirming your pregnancy, it’s time to consider your pregnancy options. You have three options: adoption, abortion, or parenting. Make sure to get educated on all three before making a decision. Our team at Willow Women’s Center can help talk you through all your options.
